Over the last several years burglaries and home invasions have been on the rise in the United States. Home alarm services that provide 24/7 monitoring are the best weapon to combat these crimes, but they are not the only ones.
Communication with members of your neighborhood is an excellent tool. Talk it over with your neighbors and come up with a system of signals in case an emergency should arise.
These signals could be physical movements like signs given in a baseball game, or they could be a flickering light in a room in your house. Signals can also be verbal, like a code word used in person or on the phone.
If you suddenly have to leave town for a while and are unable to get in touch with a neighbor, you could leave a signal like a lawn flag. This can let them know that you are away and ask them to watch your house until you return.
By creating signals like these with your neighbors you are creating a safer community and better sense of security where both your families can trust each other.
